Making an in Memoriam donation in memory of a loved one is such a special thing to do. Not only does it allow other families to benefit from the services offered by the Beacon of Hope, allowing people to live and to die according to their own wishes, but it also, hopefully, offers some comfort to the families of the bereaved, knowing that they are easing someone else’s path.

Donating in memory of a loved one who has passed away is a lasting way to honour a life.

We can help you by providing envelopes for donations in lieu of flowers. Your Funeral Director will advise you. Donation cheques should be payable to The Beacon Of Hope - Ffagl Gobaith , and sent to

Donation in memory Story

Hotelier’s Gift Boosts Charity

A retired Aberystwyth hotelier has given a local hospice charity a major gift in memory of his late wife.

Tom Francis ran the Queensbridge Hotel on the town’s Promenade with his wife Dilys for 30 years.  Dilys died after a three-year battle with cancer in October, and Tom decided to donate gifts from friends in her memory totalling £1,085 to Beacon of Hope.

Dilys’s daughter Lisa explained that her mother wanted to be at home with her family in the final stages of her illness, and this was only possible because of round-the clock care provided by the hospice’s team of nurses

Lisa, a former Welsh Assembly member and Aberystwyth town councillor, said, “The option of being at home while terminally ill might not be everyone’s preference, but it meant a great deal to my mother to be among her family at this time”.

“Beacon of Hope also helped the family a great deal with the bereavement process.  I really feel the Welsh Government should do more to support hospice care in this area."

Tom, who now lives in Llanfarian, was born into a Welsh family in the dairy trade in London, and his wife was a former president of the Cardiganshire London Welsh Association.

The gift was received by the charity’s founder, Mrs Elizabeth Murphy MBE, at a presentation at the charity’s offices in Aberystwyth.  Mrs Murphy said she was delighted to accept such a thoughtful gift.

“We rely on generous gifts like this donation to keep our vital services going - most of our income comes from voluntary donations, and the people of this area are so generous in supporting Beacon of Hope as their local charity,” she said.

Beacon of Hope is a hospice charity, which provides help and support for those with life-limiting illness and also their families in Ceredigion and surrounding area.
